College of Arms is also known as Herald’s College. It was founded by King Richard III in 1484. The College was originally at Derby Place since it was founded in 1484. However, today, this College is situated on Queen Victoria Street. The College was established by the virtue of the Royal Charter. The College of Arms is a royal corporation of professional officers.
These officers look over matters pertaining within the whole of England, Northern Ireland, Wales and few Commonwealth realms. College of Arms is self-funded.

The principal responsibility of College of Arms is to grant a new coat of arms and to ensure that they are used appropriately. Coat of Arms is given to individuals. It is also required to keep registers of arms, royal licenses, change of names, flags, etc. It has 13 officers or heralds to carry out the functions and responsibilities effectively. Henry VIII had extended his support to the College of Arms.
When King Henry VIII was the monarch, the most crucial duty of the College was heraldic visitation. This duty was conferred upon the College by King himself in 1530. Queen Mary I was responsible for re-establishing the College after most of its part was gutted down in the Great Fire of London in 1666. During the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, the privileges of College were conferred by the Act of Parliament.
