Imperial War Museum has 5 branches in Britain namely- London, North, Duxton, Churchill War Rooms and HMS Belfast. This Museum houses collections which relate to the war situations faced by Britain. The museum also includes those materials and objects of people who suffered as a result of the war.
Imperial War Museum-History
The Imperial War Museum was founded in 1917 and its purpose was to keep the records of the impact of the First World War on Britain and other Commonwealth countries. The museum captures the sacrifice made by Britain and also is a mark of tribute to the role of Britain in the war.
Imperial war museum opening times
The Imperial War Museum was opened to the public in 1920. The museum was first located at Crystal Palace and was opened by King George V. The museum displays collections like oral history recordings, films, photographs, documents, etc.
The museum at present even houses all the crucial military events of the 20th century wherein Britain had participated. The collections include military tanks, warplanes guns, etc. In 1936 the Imperial Museum was shifted to Bedlam. Bedlam was earlier used as a hospital for the insane.
