Ljubljana Bus

Ljubljana Bus Station

The main bus station in Ljubljana is adjacent to the train station. The street address is Trg Osvobodilne front 4 and the telephone number is +386 (0)1 234 46 00. The bus station has its own website with pages in English (see below). There is a timetable giving details of all arrivals and departures (including international coach travel destinations), but the place names are in the Slovenian language. The site also gives both city and local bus route maps.

Internet access is available at the bus station (cyber café). If you have a Ljubljana card, you can have one hour of access free of charge or free bus tickets

City Buses

Those wishing to travel on Ljubljana city buses, operated by the Ljubljanski potniški prompt (LPP) public utility company, should purchase the Urbana public transport card. The Urbana card is available from LPP ticket offices, tourist information centers and most of the city’s newspaper kiosks, news-stands and post offices.

The card is priced at €2.00 and can store up to €50.00 of credit to be spent on city bus fares.

The Urbana card can be topped up with cash at all the above-mentioned sales outlets and the green Urbanomat ticket machines located across the city, mostly next to bus stops. The ticket machines accept both cash and credit and debit cards.

Visitors to Ljubljana who purchase their Urbana card from a Tourist Information Centre and keep the receipt can return the card to the place of purchase when they no longer need it and claim a €2.00 refund.
The city bus stops display maps of the route and many of the buses use a recorded message system to announce upcoming stops. It is worth noting that smoking, eating or drinking and the use of mobile phones are not allowed on the bus. You will need the exact fare for your destination as no change is given for overpayment.

Ljubljana Bus Station

This will be your starting point if you arrive by shuttle from the Brnik airport. The bus station is actually just a bus parking space situated in front the train station. The station serves long-distance buses, which during the day travel to many towns around Ljubljana, making them the ideal means of transport for a day trip. There is a small cashiers desk offering information and tickets, although often these things are directly available from the drivers. You can find bus schedules on their official web page.
