Touring Italy Milan

Touring Italy Milan: The fashion capital of Italy does not have much to offer and can be easily skipped. It can be covered in half a day. We landed in Milan’s Orio Al Serio airport at 9:30 am. The airport is in a suburb called Bergamo and from here, various shuttle services take you to the Milano Centrale railway station. The cost is ? 6 and travel time is half an hour.

The self-service ticket machines on the metro do have any English instructions. Beware of the beggar women which lurk around self-service ticket machines. They will help you get a ticket but will not return you any change that comes out.

Milan Cathedral

Take the metro line to the Duomo. Every city in Italy will have a Piazza del Duomo. These are cathedrals with an open square in front. It is possible to climb on top of the dome in Milan.

Unfortunately, when we went there, the climb was forbidden due to some renovation work.

In and around the piazza, there are a variety of shops and open cafes. From the Duomo, you can walk along via Marconi to reach Castello Sforzesco.

The castle and the gardens behind it are worth seeing. You can walk along the garden paths and go to Arc de Sempione.

Milan Points of Interest

The main attraction in Milan would be Da Vinci’s Last Supper. This famous painting adorns a wall of a refectory. You will need to go along Corso Magenta (close to Cadorna Station) and
find Cenacolo Vinciano adjoining Chiesa di Santa Maria Delle Grazie. It is advisable to book in advance as they allow only 15 people at a time for 15 minutes.

The normal entry fee is? 6.50 except during those tours when there is a compulsory guide.

With the guide it costs? 9.75 per person.

We finished seeing Milan between 11 am and 4 pm after which we were back at Milano Centrale for our Eurostar to Venezia.
