Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships

The Wimbledon lawn tennis championships are the oldest tennis championships in the world as well as the most prestigious. The Championships are held at the venue of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon since they began in 1877. The original venue of the All England Club was off Worple Road, but the later in 1922 the Club shifted its premises to its current location on Church Road. It has 19 tennis courts which include the three show courts.

The Centre Court, as the name suggests is situated at the Centre of the lawns and is the most prestigious lawn tennis court in the world. Apart from the Centre Court, there is the No.1 Court and the No.2 Court which are also very famous and these three courts showcase the major matches during the two weeks of the tournament. Wimbledon is one of the four grand slam events of lawn tennis and the only grand slam event to be still played on grass.

The Wimbledon Championships are held in the last weeks of June and beginning weeks of July every year. Some people stay there in the queue overnight. However, even if you go there very early in the morning around 5 a.m. you should be able to get in at some time during the day.
